In Altera, innovation is what we always talk about...In fact , we did some of the cool things in the Altera Toastmaster Club as well. Kudos to all the previous committee.

Meeting room change to building 3 (half year basis) - This is to lessen the burden of the toastmasters from B3 for an half a year
Toastmaster meeting in the club house - This should be the most relaxing meeting that i ever had for this year. Let's try it again!
"Secret rehearsal" with the table topic and international speech participants - We did not try this before, but the constructive feedback did help the participants to boost up their confidence. I think Segar will agree to this, right? :)
Demo meeting by the experienced speaker - We invited Mei Yee, Seah and Peng Yew to carry out the evaluation session. This was really an eye-opening session. I was amazed by their ability to observe and capture all the details in such a short time and present it accurately to the speakers within a given time.

Well, being innovative is important as this will always excite the members to learn more in order to improve their speaking skill under a comfortable and new environment(I realized new members from B3 tend to speak more when they are in B3..) and we really hope those changes that we made throughout year will benefits the members. At last, I wanted to post this picture as the end of my service for this term. (sorry for those who late or absent)

Oops...I almost forgot this. We used to have this magical phrase which passed down from our "ancestors" and this always come in handy if you need to motivate yourself. Now, it is time to pass this to the next committee. Here is it "VERY-EASY-ONLY". If you encounter any barrier in toastmaster, just hypnotize yourself with this! Enjoy this fantastic voyage!

We just received the Distinguish Club Status Award from our district governor of year 2010/11 today. Check it out! Thanks Seah for providing all the support and guidance throughout the year, we really appreciate it :) . Not to forget, thanks to all the committee who works together in organizing membership drive, competitions and bi-weely meetings. Let's achieve more in the coming term and continue to support our next term exco.

Penang Altera Toastmasters Club International Speech & Table Topics Contest - Summary and Photos

Penang Altera Toastmasters Club held its inaugural International Speech and Table Topics Contest on 9^th of March 2010. This event attracted a roomful of audience, comprising of fellow Alterians, as well as a good number of visitors from Intel Penang Toastmasters Club. Seven Penang Altera Toastmasters took up the challenge of the contests – 3 for International Speech and 4 for Table Topics. The 3 guest judges for the contests were Division N Governor, Koay Kah Hin, CC, ALS; Area N3 Governor Karen Teh, ACB, ALB; and Area N6 Governor Terence Lee, ACS, ALB.

The event started on time at 6.15pm. After the call to order by the Sergeant-At-Arms, Yun Mei, and a brief opening speech by the Organizing Chair, Mei Yee, the Contest Chair, Jeremy Lee, took over the stage. Jeremy read out the International Speech contest rules, contestant qualification rules and finally the contest began for real. Hui Leang Ong, CC; Jiunn Wen Chan, CC; and Sherine Ang, CC took their turns and gave their very best, putting on impressive performances. Hui Leang gave an entertaining speech on her aunt’s adventures with Facebook and technology, Jiunn Wen gave a motivational speech on how to lead your life and reach your dreams, and Sherine gave a convincing plea to save Mother Earth and the environment with 5 simple steps. The crowd listened in rapt attention, laughing, responding and cheering the speakers.

There was a 30-minutes dinner break in the Altera cafeteria, and the Table Topics contest commenced with Jeremy performing his role as Contest Chair, reading out the obligatory rules. The Table Topics contestants were taken out of the room and called in one by one to take their turns at answering the Table Topic prepared by the Chief Judge, Terence Lee. Kok Kiang Hea, Joehan Keong, CC, Kok Tung Lee and Ashley Ng took their turns, giving very different responses to the same Table Topic. The Table Topics contest demonstrated quick-thinking and elicited smooth responses from the contestants.

Finally, the moment of truth came. The audience waited eagerly to know the results of the contest, drumming on the tables and chairs. The Table Topics contest results were announced first, followed by the International Speech contest results. The winners are:

The contest drew to an end with the handing out of souvenirs and certificate of appreciation to all role players for the day. The contest winners will proceed to compete with other club winners in the Area N6 contest, to be held in Altera Penang on April 10.

Good Bye, Mohd Adzani!!

It is regretted to inform that our club president, Mohd Adzani is stepping down from Altera Toastmasters club. Adzani will be moving back to KL due to family reason.

All club members would like to thanks him for all the great works done to this club. It is indeed a sad moment to the club for losing such an important asset. We will always hoping that he will be back to this club one day :)

Good luck to adzani for all the future undertakings. We wish you all the best!

Selected Distinguished Club Award

Congratulations to all fellow Toastmasters of Altera Penang Toastmaster Club!! All of us deserve a pat on the back for helping the club to achieve the award of being recognized as "selected distinguished club" which is one of the privilege honors for any Toastmasters Club . The award would not be possible if without the dedications and hard works from all the club members. To make this award even more impressive, it was achieved in only the span of one and the half years since the inception of the club.

Just a background for the award, the club need to maintain a healthy number of Toastmasters members with committed participation in various events organized internally and externally. Between, all members have to participate in roles and assignments to help the club producing an exceptional amount of Toastmaster CC and AC. In short, all efforts are to help ourselves to improve the communication and leadership skills. Also to mention that it helps to maintain a comfortable learning environment for everyone and thus letting new members to grow with us.

Together, we will continue to maintain all the good works and ensure we can continue on being proud to be a member of Selected Distinguished Club of Altera Penang Toastmasters Club!! The President Distinguished Club award is our next target!!
